אודותי: שמי (ככתוב בכותרת) אלדד קינן. יליד הארץ, חילוני ומאד סקרן. גר בחיפה ונשוי בכיף. חיזקתי את העם והארץ בהרבה ילדים (אסור לספור!) ויש לי ברזומה שתי מלחמות: יום כיפור כסדיר (סיירת "שקד"), ו"שלום הגליל" כמילואימניק בפלס"ר חי"ר. הייתי לפני הרבה שנים ילד בקיבוץ (רמת יוחנן), ומגיל שש בקרית שמונה, עד 1997.

כחילוני מוחלט וגמור, לא היה לי שום קשר לדת, וודאי לא למנהג שאנו עוסקים בו. לאחר השחרור הייתי נהג תובלה כבדה בקבע וגם באזרחות עד שתאונת דרכים קטעה את הקריירה על הכביש, בשנת 1988. כמעט באין ברירה פניתי ללימודים אקדמיים, אותם סיימתי בתואר ראשון ושני בהצטיינות באוניברסיטת חיפה, עם התמחות בתולדות ישראל בתקופת המשנה והתלמוד (כיום - דוקטורנט בתחום בבר-אילן).

כך החלה ההיכרות עם המנהג הזה. נקודת המוצא שלי כלפיו היתה שלילית. אבל מחקר מעמיק שנמשך מעל עשר שנים (ולמעשה לא נפסק עד היום), הוביל לגישה שונה לגמרי. נתחיל מן העובדה שהמנהג הזה נולד והתפתח בארץ. נמשיך בעובדה נוספת: יש עדויות לקיומו בארץ כבר בימי בית שני (ישו התנגד!). אפשר אפילו להראות שחז"ל התירו את קיום המנהג.

למה עולים אנשים לקברים האלה? נראה שהשאלה מיותרת. מן הסתם יש להם מצוקות, והם מאמינים שעלייה לאתרים האלה ותפילה בהם יביאו להקלה או לפתרון. וזה לא הנושא שלנו. בתחום הזה עוסקים מקצוענים אחרים: סוציולוגים ואנתרופולוגים. לנו יש מטרה אחרת: להבין את יסודות המנהג, התפתחותו, הקשריו ההיסטוריים.

Hi! I'm Eldad Keynan, Israeli native, non-observant and very curious. Happily married and living in Beautiful Haifa, I did my best to strengthen the people and the land, by having a lot of children and two wars in my resume: the Yom Kipur as regular infantry special, and the first Lebanon war (1982), as a reserve infantry special 

As a non-observant Jew, I had no link to religion, certainly not to the custom we are about to deal with. I did my time in the IDF (1974), then a heavy truck driver until a truck eccident stopped my driving career. Having no other choice, I turned to the Academy, and ended up with B.A and M.A in Haifa University (cum lauda), specialising in Jewish History. For the last 3 years I'm working on my Ph.D in Bar Ilan University

 My initial atitude toward the custom was negative. But over a decade of deep research led me to a totally different approach. We can start with the fact that this custom was born in Erets-Israel, and we have some evidences to Jesus' resistance to the custom. We can also see that the Sages permitted it, and even created manual to set it properly

Why do people visit those sites? The answer seems obvious: they have their stresses and pains, and they do believe in visiting the sites, pray for God's help in a better place and maybe even with the help of a VIP. But this is not our subject

If you want to understand the roots of the custom, it's historical background and context, how the sages permitted it and why - all these questions, and much more, will be answered. My commitment is not to persuade anyone to visit or to recommend not to visit the holy sites. I'm here only to clear the subject
